PANDA MOBILE AND IAAS IPB INVITE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS TO LOVE THE ENVIRONMENT
By: Nur Arinta (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
Panda Mobile visited Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) again on (01/10). The visit this time was to fill in the event "Save Environment and Make Movement with Agri-rangers" organized by the International Association of Students in Agriculture and Related Sciences (IAAS) IPB. In this activity, IAAS IPB brought students from SDN Carang Pulang, Dramaga, Bogor. They are the students of IAAS IPB.
After IAAS IPB opened the event, the Panda Mobile team started by introducing the students to WWF-Indonesia, Panda Mobile, and several key animals that are the focus of WWF's conservation work in Indonesia. Panda Mobile's mission this time was to foster elementary school students' love for the environment through educational games. Therefore, the students were divided into several groups and then invited to make group yells and play together.< br />
After playing with IAAS IPB, it was time for the children to do activities with WWF-Indonesia. Kak Iyan was present to tell a story to the students. Cilup became the main star in Kak Iyan's story. The children looked very interested in the Cilup character. In his fairy tale, Kak Iyan told the story of Cilup who was naughty because he littered in the forest. One day, Cilup met an orangutan, they had a conversation and in the end he realized that his littering was not a good thing.
After the story, students in grades 1-4 were invited to climb onto the Panda Mobile truck to watch environmental-themed movies. Not only watching, they were also invited to discuss the messages contained in the movie. At the same time, students in grades 5-6 were invited to play the games "tangled hands" and "stand together". The games train children's cohesiveness and thinking to solve problems. WWF-Indonesia stickers were given to children who could answer questions and actively participate in activities with Panda Mobile.
Della, a member of IAAS IPB who became the organizer of the event said that the environmental education activities carried out by Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia are very positive and interesting. In addition to the unusual educational content, which is about preservation and conservation of the environment, the way it is delivered entertains children and becomes very fun for them. Della hopes that environmental education like this can continue to take place and can have a positive impact on environmental conservation.
