SCHOOLS CELEBRATE EARTH DAY WITH RECYCLING PROJECT AND FUN PARADES!
Earth Day, which is celebrated every April 22, is an important moment in schools to introduce and teach environmental awareness to students. During Earth Day this year, several schools in Jakarta had the opportunity to participate in an environmental campaign with WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile team. Each school conducts campaign activities uniquely and differently. However, they have one common goal, which is to save the Earth for a sustainable future.
The four schools that took part in this celebration were Saint John Gading Serpong School, Global Prestasi School Bekasi, Raffles Christian School, and Lentera Indonesia School. All four schools organized educational and creative activities that engaged their students in understanding the importance of protecting the environment.
At the Saint John Gading Serpong Junior & Senior High School level, Earth Day commemoration was filled with educational and creative activities aimed at fostering environmental awareness among students. The event started with a learning session about the impact of plastic waste on the environment, followed by a workshop to make tote bags from used clothes. This workshop was a new experience for most of the students, they followed every stage of the activity with enthusiasm. In addition to honing creativity, this activity also teaches the value of sustainability by creating functional items from textile waste. The tote bags made by the students can be directly used for daily activities, such as shopping clear example of implementing an eco-friendly lifestyle.
The Earth Day celebration continued to a younger level. This time, it was the turn of the children from Global Prestasi School at the kindergarten level to participate. Kindergarten students were invited to listen to stories from Uncle Gery about protected animals, and then participate in various educational games about environmental conservation. Through this activity, it is hoped that a sense of concern for nature will grow from an early age.
Different from other schools, Raffles Christian School celebrated Earth Day by holding a parade themed "Save the Sumatran Elephant." In this activity, the students carried campaign banners and wore various attributes such as elephant masks and costumes that they made themselves. The creativity of the students in expressing their concern for these protected animals was a highlight, as well as a tangible form of fun and meaningful environmental education.
Through various educational, creative, and fun activities, this year's Earth Day celebration is proof that concern for the environment can be instilled from an early age in an inspiring way. Together with WWF-Indonesia through Panda Mobile, these schools have shown that real action in saving the earth can start from the classroom, and from the younger generation, the hope for the future of the earth is maintained.
