Conservation Area is an area that has certain characteristics as an ecosystem unit that is protected, preserved, and utilized sustainably (Permen-KP No. 31/2020). The conservation areas targeted by the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries are conservation areas in coastal areas and small islands.
WWF-Indonesia and partners support the government in the development and effective management of conservation areas - protection of marine biodiversity and habitats; sustainable use by communities; and good and adequate governance. The existence of conservation areas is also to ensure that community-based management areas such as customary communities, villages and groups that have existed for generations, are recognized and their management is strengthened.
