GIANT GARBAGE BINS ENLIVEN “DO BETTER FOR EARTH”

Jakarta (31/01)- Hundreds of Jakarta citizens marched from Hotel Indonesia traffic circle to Semanggi Plaza expressing their concern regarding the environment, Sunday (31/01). In the event called “Walk for Earth”, WWF supporters, WWF-Indonesia Honorray Supporters and the public assimilated resonating “saving the planet” effort.
All participants led by tens of supporters doing theatrical action. They had their body painted blue and green while carrying two big garbage bins as a symbol of better waste separating practice. While walking for about 3 kms, they gave their appeal for promoting green lifestyle to Jakarta citizens, particularly in better waste management practice for instance separating organic and inorganic waste.
“Those giant garbage bins are important symbol for us that showing our concern regarding the environment can be done by practicing simple things,” said WWF-Indonesia Marketing and Communication Director Devy W.A. Suradji.
According to WWF-Indonesia Fundrasing Manager Maitra Widiantini, “Do Better for Earth” is one of communication media between WWF-Indonesia and its supporters who have been supporting WWF conservation effort. “This event aims to gather WWF Supporters, WWF Honorary Supporters, community of nature lovers and the public to carry on real action supporting environmental effort,” she said.
That supporter gathering event also concluded the announcement of the winners of “Do Better for Earth” contest conducted ;as December. The three winners were Dwi Andriyan with the video titled “Do Better”, Diah Nurmalasari with “Kurangi Penggunaan Plastik/literally means Reduce Plastic Use”, and Hendi Irnandi “PSA WWF.” Those three won ecotourism trip to WWF-Indonesia’s site in Ujung Kulon.
In the sideyard of Semangi Plaza, WWF also held “Green Exhibition” participated by WWF-Indonesia programs, community of nature lovers, and other environmental NGOs.
The performance of an a cappella group Jamaica Café in a “WWF Panda Mobile” stage been officially handed over previously closed the event. The six personnel-group attractively performed and entertained all the visitors with no musical instrument which has become their specific style. The crowd was animated as the charismatic Jamaica café sang the old hits from ABBA group “Mamma Mia” and Betawi song “Jali-jali.”
