IKBI SUPPORTS BANK INDONESIA’S BUSINESS MATCHING PROGRAM TO STRENGTHEN SMEs’ ACCESS TO GREEN FINANCING
MSMEs contribute more than 60% of national GDP and absorb around 97% of Indonesia's workforce (Ministry of Finance, 2024). This significant role positions MSMEs as a key driver of the transition toward a low-carbon economy, provided they receive support in accessing affordable and well-targeted financing to adopt greener business practices.
Business Matching, March–May 2026: Screening MSMEs for Green Financing Readiness
Responding to this need, Bank Indonesia ran a green financing business matching program for MSMEs from March to May 2026, supported by the Indonesia Sustainable Finance Initiative (IKBI), which is secretariated by WWF-Indonesia. The sustainability assessment of MSMEs in this program referred to the Guidebook for Implementing Sustainable MSME Business Models: Mitigation Action, launched by Bank Indonesia in March 2026 as a refinement of the 2024 Green MSME Development Guidelines. Through the self-assessment framework in this guidebook, MSMEs were grouped into three stages of sustainable practice adoption: Eco-Adopter, Eco-Entrepreneur, and Eco-Innovator. MSMEs that completed the assessment were connected with participating banks in the Business Matching program, including Bank Mandiri, BRI, BNI, BSI, OCBC, SMBC Indonesia, Panin, and BJB.
Culmination of the Series: Recognition at Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI), 20–23 August 2026
The Business Matching process that has been running since March reached its culmination at Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) 2026, Bank Indonesia's annual flagship event held from 20 to 23 August 2026 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Jakarta. At the event, WWF-Indonesia, as secretariat of IKBI, received an award from Bank Indonesia in recognition of its contribution and support for the Business Matching program through its coordination of IKBI. The award was presented by Kurniawan Agung, Director of the Inclusive and Green Finance Economy Department (DEIH) at Bank Indonesia, to Diah Suradireja, Head of Policy, Advocacy, and Inclusivity at WWF-Indonesia. In addition to receiving the award, WWF-Indonesia also joined Bank Indonesia in presenting awards to the IKBI member banks that participated in the Green MSME Business Matching program.
Through KKI, Bank Indonesia and IKBI are expanding inclusive access to financing for MSMEs while encouraging the emergence of more environmentally friendly business models. As the largest contributor to the national workforce, MSMEs are expected to lead the way in adopting sustainability practices, provided that financing support continues to expand and become more accessible.
