PANDA MOBILE AND AIESEC PRESIDENT UNIVERSITY COLLABORATION IN EDUCATING DON BOSCO CIKARANG SMP STUDENTS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT
By: Vivian Chevy (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
Panda Mobile and students of exchange program AIESEC President University collaborated again to build students' awareness about environmental sustainability. This time the activity involving students from Slovakia, Czech, China, and Belgium took place at Don Bosco Junior High School, Cikarang on Thursday (09/02) with the theme "Environmental Awareness".
A total of 60 Don Bosco Junior High School students participated in the activity accompanied by teachers. The AIESEC President University team started the activity by introducing themselves and telling stories about the environmental conditions in their respective countries, what they have done in their home countries and what can be applied in the surrounding environment. The students were very enthusiastic to hear the stories from the AIESEC team delivered in English. They were also invited to sing and dance songs about environmental awareness.
At the end of the event, the students were invited to express their ideas through posters to reflect on what they had learned in the last two hours. Each class was divided into five groups. The results of the posters were then presented to the class. Very diverse presentations were obtained from each group. Some drew a world split in two where one depicts a broken world and the other a world that is still shady with trees, animals, and clear water. There was also a group that drew a panda head as a symbol of WWF that preserves and protects animals and their natural habitat. The values embedded in the students of Don Bosco Junior High School are expected to change the indifferent attitude of the Indonesian people towards the environment.
The visit of Panda Mobile and AIESEC was closed with speeches from student representatives and a thank you from AIESEC President University. The students gave their posters to the volunteers as a memento. Some of the posters were displayed at the school to raise awareness for other students in the future.
