PANDA MOBILE AND SDN PONDOK BENDA 1 CONDUCT WATER AND LARVAE OBSERVATION ACTIVITIES
By: Lukita (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
Water is the source of life for all living things. Where there is water, there is life. Water is an essential element that cannot be replaced. Water is used by humans, animals and plants every day. However, at present, water crisis occurs in many places. As a result, humans, animals and plants do not get enough water. Without water, perhaps all of us would not be able to survive.
Water is an element that is the main focus for us to preserve. If we are not wise in using water, then the water crisis on this Earth will continue. Therefore, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile once again provides education to the community, especially to students by visiting SDN Pondok Benda 01 Tangerang on Monday (13/08). Through the screening of a video entitled "Water Guardians", Panda Mobile provides an overview of the community that maintains the condition of the surrounding rivers.
Panda Mobile's visit this time was very special because the students also got the experience of becoming Little Detective Flick Monitors or Jumancil (Little Jumantik). The activity began with education through a video about the dangers of the Aedes aegypti mosquito that can carry the dengue virus that causes dengue fever. This type of mosquito lays eggs in stagnant water to develop into adult mosquitoes. Eggs that have hatched and live in stagnant water are called larvae.
After being educated about mosquitoes and larvae, the students were given the task of looking for larvae in stagnant water around the school. The water samples were then observed using WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile water laboratory facility. The students were invited to look at the tiny larvae through a microscope. They were very enthusiastic when the results of microscope observations on the monitor screen showed the shape of the larvae larger than the original size.
The danger of mosquitoes and larvae must be prevented. "Mosquitoes and larvae that nest in stagnant water must also be prevented by doing 3M, namely covering, draining, and burying," said one of Panda Mobile's volunteers.
The Panda Mobile team advised the students to maintain their health, keep the environment clean, use water wisely, and not destroy the Earth. All students are very happy to have new experiences and knowledge that they get with Panda Mobile. In addition to being expected to be wiser in using water, they are also expected to be more concerned about water conditions so as to prevent the emergence of larvae in puddles.
