PANDA MOBILE INTRODUCES "ENDANGERED SPECIES" TO CHILDREN
By: Muhammad Azhari Lubis (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
In late January (31/01), Panda Mobile visited Al Taqwa College in Hambalang Village to educate students about endangered wildlife. The activity began with an introduction to the Panda Mobile Team, WWF-Indonesia, and the six species of umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation.
After that, the students were invited to listen to a story told by Kak Ryan. Accompanied by singing and guitar strumming, Kak Ryan told a story about the friendship of tigers, orangutans, and elephants who help trees to grow again by spreading their seeds. The story was also told about a tree that was destroyed by humans.
After hearing the fairy tale presented by Kak Ryan, the children were then divided into three groups. The first group did a movie watching activity in the classroom. They watched the movies "Tiger Hunter", "Animal Saving Planet", and "Quartet at the Crossroads". After watching the movie, Panda Mobile volunteers explained the connection between the movie story and the current condition of nature and animals. The volunteers also asked the children questions about the animals in the movie and reintroduced some of the animals they didn't know about.
The second group did the water lab. Panda Mobile volunteers first introduced the benefits of water for life and about polluted water. The students were also introduced to polluted water and water that is suitable for consumption. Then Panda Mobile volunteers invited the children to test the quality of water by inserting litmus paper into the water to find out whether the water is acidic, alkaline, or neutral. The students got the opportunity to see the microorganisms in the water with the help of Panda Mobile's microscope.Panda Mobile volunteers advised the students not to litter the river.
The third group played "Ciki-Caka" and "Chain Message". Through this game, children are invited to convey conservation messages well, and the message from upstream to downstream is the same and well conveyed. The series of Panda Mobile activities was closed with a group photo.
