Risk Management Specialist
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Risk Management Specialist provides technical support for the implementation and continuous improvement of WWF-Indonesia’s Risk Management Framework across programs, projects, operations, and partnerships.
The position supports organizational risk management processes by facilitating risk identification, assessment, treatment planning, monitoring, reporting, and follow-up of mitigation actions. Working closely with Risk Owners, Risk Leaders, and Risk Champions across WWF-Indonesia, the Specialist supports risk-informed decision-making, strengthens organizational resilience, and promotes consistent application of risk management practices.
The Specialist focuses on risk management systems, methodologies, tools, risk registers, risk profiles, and reporting processes. The position provides facilitation, technical guidance, and quality assurance on risk management processes, while accountability for risks remains with the respective Risk Owners.
The Specialist also collaborates with relevant technical functions, including Environmental & Social Safeguards, Compliance, Finance, Fundraising, Operations, and Program teams, to ensure organizational risks are appropriately identified, documented, monitored, escalated, and managed.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Risk Management Framework Implementation
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of WWF-Indonesia’s Risk Management Framework, policies, procedures, methodologies, and tools.
- Promote consistent application of organizational risk management processes across programs, projects, operations, and partnership.
- Provide technical guidance to Risk Owners, Risk Leaders, and Risk Champions on risk identification, assessment, treatment planning, monitoring, reporting, and follow-up of mitigation actions..
- Support integration of risk management requirements into organizational planning, project cycle management, implementation, monitoring, review, and decision-making processes..
- Contribute to the development, maintenance, and dissemination of risk management guidance materials, templates, tools, and practical references.
- Support quality assurance of risk management practices to ensure risk information is complete, consistent, documented, and aligned with WWF-Indonesia’s Risk Management Framework.
- Promote understanding, ownership, and adoption of risk management practices across WWF-Indonesia.
Risk register Management and Monitoring
- Maintain centralized organizational risk registers, databases, and risk monitoring systems.
- Coordinate periodic updates of risk registers with Risk Owners, Risk Champions, and relevant functions..
- Monitor implementation status of agreed mitigation actions and follow up on outstanding actions with responsible units.
- Support tracking of risk treatment plans, mitigation actions, responsible persons, timelines, and implementation progress.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure completeness, consistency, accuracy, and timelines of risk information.
- Support the preparation and consolidation of organizational and unit-level risk profiles based on updated risk register information.
- Escalate significant issues, delays, risk movements, overdue actions, or emerging concerns through established reporting channels.
Risk Reporting & Analysis
- Analyze organizational risk information and identify trends, patterns, risk movements, emerging risks, and areas requiring management attention.
- Prepare periodic risk reports, dashboards, summaries, and presentations for management review, , including updates on key risks, mitigation progress, overdue actions, and significant changes in risk exposure.
- Support preparation of risk-related information for governance, compliance, audit, donor, and management reporting requirements.
- Support the development, monitoring, and reporting of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and early warning information for significant organizational risks.
- Contribute to organizational learning by documenting lessons learned, loss events, near misses, and good practices from risk management activities.
- Support development of risk reporting products that facilitate informed decision-making, prioritization, escalation, and follow-up by relevant management functions.
Project and Operational Risk Support
- Support project and operational teams in applying organizational risk management processes throughout project and operational cycles, including proposal development, planning, implementation, monitoring, review, and closure.
- Assist teams in establishing and maintaining project and operational risk registers, including risk treatment plans and follow-up actions.
- Provide technical support in monitoring implementation of mitigation measures and documenting risk management actions, decisions, changes, and lessons learned.
- Support project proposal and planning processes by facilitating risk identification, risk assessment, risk treatment planning, and documentation exercises.
- Coordinate with relevant technical specialists including Environmental & Social Safeguards, Compliance, Finance, Operations, Procurement, Legal, and Program teams to ensure risk assessments reflect subject matter expertise where required.
- Support the handover of proposal-stage risks and commitments into relevant project monitoring, implementation, and reporting systems after project approval.
Capacity Building and Risk Culture
- Design and facilitate risk management awareness sessions, inductions, workshops, and training activities for staff, Risk Owners, Risk Champions, and partners.
- Develop learning materials, guidance notes, templates, and practical tools related to risk management processes.
- Provide technical coaching and advisory support to staff on organizational risk management requirements and practices, including the use of risk registers, risk profiles, KRIs, and mitigation tracking tools.
- Promote a proactive risk culture and encourage risk-informed decision-making across WWF-Indonesia.
- Support knowledge sharing and dissemination of lessons learned, loss event insights, near misses, and good practices related to risk management
Audit, Compliance and Continuous Improvement
- Support coordination of risk-related actions arising from internal audits, external audits, reviews, and assessments.
- Track implementation of agreed management actions and corrective measures related to risk management findings, including overdue actions and recurring issues.
- Support periodic reviews of risk management processes and the effectiveness of mitigation measures, controls, and follow-up actions.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at strengthening governance, internal control systems, and organizational accountability.
- Collaborate with Environmental & Social Safeguards, Compliance, Finance, Human Resources, Operations, and Program teams to support continuous improvement of risk management practices.
- Support documentation of lessons learned from audits, reviews, assessments, incidents, and loss events to inform improvements to the Risk Management Framework, tools, and processes.
REQUIREMENT
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Public Administration, Environmental Management, Law, Development Studies, or related disciplines.
- Master's degree is an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in enterprise risk management, project risk management, compliance, audit, governance, internal control, or related fields.
- Certification or formal training in ISO 31000-based risk management, enterprise risk management, project risk management, internal control, audit, or compliance is an advantage.
- Experience supporting risk management systems in NGOs, international development organizations, conservation organizations, multilateral institutions, consulting firms, or private sector organizations.
- Experience facilitating risk assessments and developing risk mitigation plans.
- Familiarity with donor compliance requirements and project risk management approaches.
- Experience working with organizational risk registers and reporting systems.
- Experience in conservation, sustainability, development, or non-profit sectors is desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
