FB LIVE STREAMING IPA: AN INVITATION FOR TODAY'S GENERATION TO PROTECT WATER TO REMAIN SUSTAINABLE
By: Natalia Trita Agnika
Who can live without water? There is not a single living thing in this world that can live without water. But we often overlook the importance of water preservation. Only a few rivers are still in a clear and healthy condition. Just look at the rivers around us. The colors, smells, and trash that fill it often make us look away.
Yes, we often give less appreciation to water and rivers. Yet rivers are the source of life. In order to invite the public to treat water as a precious treasure that must be protected, WWF-Indonesia made a show through Facebook Live Streaming titled "Kelas IPA (Science of Water)". The first episode of "Kelas IPA" aired last Tuesday (29/08) at 5:15 pm. The water talk show is a collaboration between WWF-Indonesia and PT Bank HSBC Indonesia in a series of water conservation program cooperation that will be carried out in the Koto Panjang area, Riau & West Sumatra.
The science class was hosted by Pevita Pearce and presented guest speaker Agus Haryanto as WWF-Indonesia's Freshwater Specialist. Beginning with the screening of the film "Guardian of Water" and a film about forests, the inaugural episode of IPA Class explained about the abundant amount of water on Earth, but only 1% of freshwater (out of 3% of freshwater on Earth) can be utilized. "Wow, that means from that 1%, humans, plants, animals, all fight over using it, right?" asked Pevita. "That's right, it's not only humans that use that 1%," Agus replied.

In addition to discussing the condition of freshwater on Earth, the talk show also answered questions from netizens who appeared through the WWF-Indonesia Facebook comment section and HSBC volunteers who attended the event. Dewi Anggraini, one of HSBC's volunteers asked about WWF's role in tackling the problem of waste in rivers, especially in Jakarta. Agus also explained that in the Strategic Plan WWF for the next five years, there will be a program on water in Jakarta, especially for the Ciliwung River.
One of the important events that will be organized by WWF-Indonesia as a real action to protect the river is the "Mulung Ciliwung / Clean Ciliwung Action" movement on Sunday, September 16, 2018. "We will go down together to clean the Ciliwung River," Agus explained.
Social media in this case Facebook Live Streaming was chosen as one of the means to invite the generation (zaman now) to be more concerned about the condition of the river and be moved to participate in preserving water. Currently, the audience has reached 1,600. The hope is that more and more members of the public, especially the younger generation, will care more about water and participate in spreading this important information by sharing it on social media.
It's time for us to treat water as a precious treasure that must be preserved by improving our daily water consumption patterns and caring about the condition of the rivers around us. Don't forget, join the Mulung Ciliwung action on September 16, 2018. Complete information will be announced through WWF-Indonesia's social media.
