LEARN ABOUT THE OCEAN WITH EXPERTS ON PENINSULA ISLAND, BALI
Denpasar, June 6, 2026 - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries together with WWF-Indonesia, Konservasi Indonesia, GIZ Indonesia, CTI-CFF, Coral Triangle Center, Yayasan Pesisir Lestari, and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia invite the entire community to join in the action for the ocean at the commemoration of World Ocean Day, Coral Triangle Day, and Road to Ocean Impact Summit which will be held at Peninsula Island, ITDC Nusa Dua, Bali on June 7, 2026.
Carrying the theme "Know Your Ocean, Make Your Action Happen", this activity emphasizes the importance of awareness, education, and real action to keep Indonesia's oceans healthy and productive for current and future generations. This activity is a space for collaboration between the government, society, the younger generation, academics, communities and the private sector to encourage active participation in marine conservation, handling marine debris and sustainable management of marine resources.
.
The series of activities began with actions for the sea in 17 locations in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Tangerang, Surabaya, Bali, Alor, Kupang, Wakatobi, Derawan, Moa (Southwest Maluku), Paloh, Makassar, Central Sulawesi, Teluk Jor (East Lombok), Palopo, Labuan Bajo, Teluk Saleh, and Ambon from mid-May to June 7. Other partners that are also part of this action collaboration are Save The Children, Delterra, EcoNusa, Marine Buddies, and Plastic Free Ocean Network.
.
This collaborative action includes activities of Healthy Waste-Free Sea (Laut SEBASAH), Indonesian Beach School, mangrove planting, coastal management education, and various other conservation activities aimed at turning the momentum of the celebration into real action. These activities are expected to build public awareness that protecting the ocean means protecting food sources, health, and the future of the Indonesian people.

"The movement to protect the ocean will be stronger through collaboration. We appreciate the support of partners, communities, young people, and coastal communities from various regions who have been involved in various concrete actions, ranging from beach cleanups, coastal ecosystem rehabilitation, community education, to campaigns to reduce waste entering the sea. These activities show that ocean protection is a shared responsibility that can start from simple steps at the local level. In line with KKP's blue economy policy, efforts to reduce waste entering the sea, handling existing waste in the sea, rehabilitating coastal ecosystems, and increasing public awareness need to be continuously strengthened to keep the sea healthy, productive and sustainable," said Director of Coastal and Small Islands, Ahmad Aris, in his official statement in Denpasar.
At the peak event held in Bali, the public can learn directly with experts through interactive talk shows, creative workshops, educational exhibitions, a kite festival marine species, cultural performances of Wayang Samudera, as well as various other family-friendly activities.
In addition to experts and practitioners, this activity also presents community leaders who are active in the field of conservation and sustainability, such as Komang Ruditha Hartawan from TPST-3R Desa Adat Seminyak which is assisted by CCEP Indonesia, Sumardin from Pokdarwis Rangko, West Manggarai; Christiani Valentine from BUMDes Manandang Kaliuda, East Sumba, NTT, and other community leaders who are ready to share their knowledge.

"The momentum of World Ocean Day and Coral Triangle Day 2026 is a common reflection that protecting the ocean is not only about protecting nature, but also ensuring that the source of protein, nutrition and livelihood for millions of people is maintained sustainably. The activity at Peninsula Island will hopefully be a means of public education to introduce the implementation of the blue economy through marine conservation, marine waste management, and coastal ecosystem rehabilitation. So we invite people in Bali to attend and learn with experts. Let's realize a healthier Indonesian ocean," said Dewi Lestari Yani Rizki, Chief Conservation Officer, WWF Indonesia Foundation.
