Fisheries business players who market their products in Indonesia are not limited to the level of large-scale producer companies. Retailers, restaurants, wholesalers and even hotels have a hand in the distribution and production process of seafood. Realizing this, Natura Seafood joined Seafood Savers.
After submitting a registration application in early 2017, Natura Seafood officially became a member of Seafood Savers on December 6, 2017. Tiya Heriyanto as President Director of Natura Seafood and Rizal Malik, CEO of WWF-Indonesia, signed the MoU which was then immediately followed by the signing of the Seafood Savers Membership Cooperation Agreement between Natura Seafood and Wawan Ridwan, Director of WWF-Indonesia's Coral Triangle program.
Natura Seafood is the trading name of PT Oceanus Natura Abadi which supplies seafood products from local Indonesian fishermen. All products are caught using its fleet of fishing vessels operating in Fisheries Management Areas (WPP) 712, 714, and 718. Established in 2016, Natura Seafood builds partnerships with fishing companies to provide premium quality and affordable products while positively impacting the economy of its fishermen.
The company markets its products to restaurants, cafes and directly to consumers in Jakarta and Bali. As a company involved in the seafood sales chain, Natura Seafood feels responsible for preserving Indonesia's marine resources. Its determination to support fisheries improvement programs and move together for sustainable fisheries is proven by its participation in the Seafood Savers program.
In this program, Natura Seafood as a buyer and wholesaler registered 19 seafood products for the CoC (Chain of Custody) standard. The products include processed grouper, red snapper, white snapper, yellowtail kuwe, kuwe, black pomfret, mackerel, lencam, baronang, skipjack, mackerel, yellowfin tuna, gecko, lemadang, scallop, loligo squid and octopus.
Under the Seafood Savers mechanism, WWF-Indonesia, will assist companies in selling sustainable and responsible products within five years. However, both Natura Seafood and WWF-Indonesia hope that the improvement process can take place more quickly in achieving the Chain of Custody. standard.
