By: Mecca Verdiana Boor (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
Taking the theme "Green Environment", Panda Mobile enlivened the Green Concert event held by Victory Plus School Bekasi on Thursday (23/02). The Green Concert is an annual event held by the school, which is located in Kemang Pratama Raya, Bekasi. This was Panda Mobile's first visit to the school.
Around 700 participants from Victory Plus playgroups, kindergartens, elementary schools, and junior high schools participated in the Panda Mobile visit. Since morning, the Panda Mobile truck has attracted the attention of students. The activity began at 08.00 with the introduction of Panda Mobile and WWF-Indonesia to the playgroup and kindergarten students followed by a storytelling session by Kak Ryan. Kak Ryan's way of storytelling accompanied by singing made the children very enthusiastic.
Next, they were invited to visit the Panda Mobile truck to play games and read books. Meanwhile, elementary school students were divided into three groups. The first group conducted water observation activities and received an explanation of the water cycle. The purpose of this activity is for students to know the facts about water and know the water cycle so that they can be wiser in using water.
Information about endangered animals and the environment was conveyed to elementary school students through movies entitled "Quartet of the Crossroad" and "Tiger Hunter". Through the two films, the children are expected to become more sensitive to Indonesia's natural resources so that there is a desire to preserve them. The elementary school students also had the opportunity to visit the Panda Mobile truck, which attracted their attention.
Then the program continued for junior high school students with presentations and discussions about umbrella animals (animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation efforts). Umbrella animals have large home ranges and therefore have a huge ecological impact on their environment. The umbrella animals in question are the Sumatran elephant, Sumatran tiger, orangutan, Javan rhino, turtle, and whale shark.
The Panda Mobile team also explained about the #DoubleTigers campaign that aims to increase the population of Sumatran tigers. The campaign was reinforced with a video showing the installation of a Guilty Print Device in one of the companies. The special device makes the printer unable to work if the user does not first apologize to the forest. The Panda Mobile team explained that the use of paper is closely related to tiger habitat because paper is produced from trees in the forest, which is the "home" of tigers.
At the same time, concern for the environment is instilled through recycling activities to make cloth bags from used T-shirts. The aim of this activity is to reduce plastic waste by using the cloth bags that have been made as reusable shopping bags. The Panda Mobile team's activities were quite busy and made the event more lively. The five-hour event was closed with a music and dance performance presented by the students of Victory Plus School.
