WHEN THE EARTH IS FULL OF TRASH

Waste is often considered a problem. Various efforts and discussions are often made to find solutions to this. One of the solutions offered to overcome the waste problem is to turn waste into a blessing. A workshop titled "Trashformation" held by Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) on Monday (11/09) tried to transmit this idea to the public by inviting Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia as one of the speakers.
Taking place at the UMN Campus Hall in Gading Serpong Tangerang, the "Trashformation" workshop was attended by 100 students from various faculties and departments. Sani Firmansyah, WWF-Indonesia's Supporter Center opened the event with the video "Quartet of The Crossroads". Through this video, the workshop participants were introduced to umbrella animals and various conservation programs carried out by WWF-Indonesia.
Next, Sani explained about the issue of waste, its management, the problems caused, and the solutions offered. On this occasion, a video entitled "Trashed" was also shown to the participants. The documentary video raised the condition of the polluted Ciliwung River. The participants were shocked when they saw the alarming sight of piles of garbage in the river.
A question and answer session was opened to get responses from the participants. There were about eight participants who were given the opportunity to ask questions. Various questions were asked, ranging from waste issues, WWF-Indonesia campaign programs, how to support WWF-Indonesia, and solutions to various environmental problems. "If the waste on Earth can no longer be handled, can the waste be sent to outer space? But this is only a question that is asked when waste management is not effective and humans have really run out of ways to deal with the waste problem," asked Kevin, one of the workshop participants.
Suddenly the question invited laughter from other participants. But on the other hand, the question is also something we should reflect on. Will we give up and let the Earth be filled with garbage? Can't waste be turned into a blessing?
