BREAKING FAST TOGETHER IN BUMI PANDA
By: Bintang Aulia (volunteer Bumi Panda)
On Tuesday (21/06), a number of orphans from Al-Amin Foundation, WWF-Indonesia Supporters, venue partners, representatives from the Regional Environmental Management Agency (BPLHD) of West Java Province, representatives from the Bandung City Environmental Management Agency (BPLH), and neighbors around Bumi Panda were present in Bumi Panda's meeting room. Their presence in the environmental education house owned by WWF-Indonesia is in the framework of the fast-breaking event which is always organized every year by Bumi Panda WWF-Indonesia. The activity is not only aimed at establishing friendship, but also to share information about the environment.
The event was opened by watching a movie about the conservation efforts made by WWF-Indonesia. The invited guests were also introduced to several umbrella species that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation work. Didik, one of the invited guests asked, "Why does WWF have to protect these animals?" Osha, one of Bumi Panda's volunteers explained that WWF does not merely protect these animals. "By protecting these umbrella species, we are also protecting the forest and marine environment where they live. It will also provide positive benefits for us humans," he said.
Furthermore, invited guests who attended were invited to see and try out the facilities in the water laboratory at Bumi Panda. The children looked very enthusiastic, especially when trying to see the microorganisms contained in the sample water. "So the microorganisms in the water are indicators or markers of water quality, whether it is good or not," explained Luthfi, a volunteer at Bumi Panda, while showing pictures of the types of microorganisms.
After touring Bumi Panda, guests gathered back in the Experience Room to begin the recitation of the Quran with Ustad Yunus. The tausyiah delivered by Ustad Yunus was related to the environment. "Allah has ordered humans on this Earth to preserve the environment. In addition to supporting WWF-Indonesia, we can start with easy things, (for example) by throwing garbage in its place," explained Ustad Yunus.
A few minutes before breaking the fast, invited guests eagerly participated in a quiz about various information that had been obtained that day. Before breaking the fast together, Susilowati Lestari, Supporter Relation Manager WWF-Indonesia gave closing remarks. "Hopefully, through this gathering with the Iftar event, we can increase our piety through caring for our environment today," she said. All participants then gathered and took pictures together, then enjoyed the iftar dishes that had been provided.
