In the #DoubleTigers campaign on Global Tiger Day some time ago, WWF-Indonesia collaborated with public figures who have concerns about the environment to join as "The Roarers". They echoed the #DoubleTigers campaign for tiger conservation, especially the Sumatran tiger. Two of the many "The Roarers" involved are Chicco Jerikho and Arifin Putra. They both had the opportunity to visit Subayang Field Station in the Rimbang Baling area and Tesso Nilo National Park.
The presence of the two public figures was in order to directly hand over the donations that had been collected through kitabisa.com/doubletigers and the adoption of Tiger Papier Mache. The donation in the form of a piyau was handed over to the WWF-Indonesia Riau Program team, to be converted into a floating library that will be used as a means of environmental education about Sumatran tigers and freshwater in villages along the Subayang River.
The special occasion was held to coincide with the inauguration of the Freshwater Nature Laboratory at Subayang Field Station on Tuesday (11/15). The Subayang Freshwater Laboratory is a collaboration between WWF-Indonesia and HSBC that aims to provide and protect water sources, provide information and educate the public about water. Chicco Jerikho and Arifin Putra also discussed with the community and the Subayang Community Forum. They even had the opportunity to conduct a live water test in the Subayang River and interact with a women's group that manages plastic waste into useful items. The group is fostered by WWF-Indonesia Riau Program, Freshwater Program. "I learned how important freshwater hygiene is for humans and animals. How important it is for humans and animals to learn to coexist," said Arifin Putra.
The next day, the two "Roarers" visited Tesso Nilo National Park to get to know more closely the Sumatran elephant conservation efforts carried out by WWF-Indonesia. Chicco Jerikho has an interest in the charismatic Sumatran elephant. Therefore, he felt very happy to be able to interact directly with these animals. "From animals, we can learn sincerity and honesty," Chicco said, expressing his impression of interacting with elephants. In addition to bathing the elephant, Chicco also gave a birthday present in the form of a banana to an elephant named Tesso who had his 9th birthday.
Meanwhile, Arifin Putra, who has an interest in wildlife and their habitats, seemed excited when he explored the Tesso Nilo area and participated in setting up a camera trap. While in Tesso Nilo, Chicco and Arifin saw firsthand how the Flying Squad team deals with and anticipates conflicts between elephants and humans. "The trip to Tesso Nilo and Rimbang Baling really opened my eyes to the richness of Indonesia's nature and animals. Wealth that must be preserved and protected so that it can continue to open the eyes of the next generation," said Arifin Putra.
